How To Change Your Ring Motion Sensor Battery

The ring motion sensor is a device that does exactly what it says in its name. Detects motion. But now you've noticed in the Ring App that you’re getting a notification of low battery status from your motion sensor. No worries, Ring has made this process very simple.

First identify which generation ring motion sensor you have. You may also need a ladder to access the device on the wall.

-1st Gen motion sensors look like this.

-Gen 1 motion sensors use one CR123a 3V battery

How to access the battery compartment on the Gen 1

  1. Disarm your Ring Alarm.

  2. Remove the cover from the device by pressing down on the tab located on the top of the device.

  3. Remove the old battery and insert the new battery, taking care to match + and - symbols with the markings on your sensor.

  4. Replace the cover securely.

-2nd Gen motion sensors look like this.

- Gen 2 motion sensors use two AA batteries

How to access the battery compartment on the Gen 2.

  1. Disarm your Ring Alarm.

  2. Slide the device off the back cover, which is mounted on your wall.

  3. Remove the old AA batteries, insert new ones, and then slide the device back onto the back cover (which should still be mounted on the wall).

Congratulations you have successfully changed your Ring Motion Sensor batteries. There should now be a green full battery status symbol in your device information.
